How to Plan for your High School Senior Session

What an exciting time in your life!  I'm appreciate you selecting me as your photographer.  This is a milestone you don't want to forget and photos are the perfect way to preserve this amazing time.   I know planning for photo session can be very overwhelming.  It's completely normal to be nervous, but proper preparation will calm nerves and make for a smooth and successful session.  Please read through this page and let me know if you have any questions at all.  I'm here to help you so please reach out to me.   I'm looking forward to our shoot.

What to Bring To your Session

Please bring clothing and accessories as desired.  You can arrive and get dressed at the session location if you are worried about getting your clothes wrinkled on the way. Please also bring chap-stick or lip gloss (helps with chapped lips since they are very hard to Photoshop).   To be extra prepared, please bring water to stay hydrated.

Girls
typically bring 2 to 3 outfit changes, make-up to freshen up in between shoots, accessories like jewlery and scarves and shoes.  A pocket mirror and brush is also good to have on hand and lotion for their legs if they are going to be showing. And lastly, bring something to carry everything in (a bag, a wagon, whatever is easiest for you).  Oh and comfortable slip on shoes like flip flops to walk from spot to spot in.
Boys usually bring, 2 to 3 shirts, 2 pants options, one or two pairs of shoes, and any other accessories they may want.   And lastly, bring something to carry everything in (a bag, a wagon, whatever is easiest for you).

What to Wear to your Session

Clothing is such an important part of your session.  It can bring the whole look of your session together making it more pleasing and overall more cohesive.

I recommend wearing something with a pop of color.  Texture and layers are always good as well.  This is an opportunity for you to share what you like (and your parents like) so bring a variety of looks!  Collared, rolled-sleeved, button down shirts are always a good choice for boys.  Shoes will show in the photos so make sure your shoes are relatively clean and your socks are the right color or style for the look you're going for.   Girls, commonly bring a variety - anything from jeans and a nice top, to casual dresses.  Shoes are also important for girls since they will be shown in many of the photographs.  Remember to bring comfortable shoes to wear in between our location walks.

Note:  We photograph in a variety of locations so many times so shoes and clothing will get dusty and sometimes a bit dirty.

Bring MORE rather than less!

If you're unsure if you should bring it, bring it.  Most people fill their trunks and we go through clothing, accessories and props before the session.   And always feel free to contact me with questions.  480-621-0138

During the Session

This is your session and I want  you to feel comfortable.  So go into this planning on having fun and know it's going to be very relaxed and easy.  We will meet at the predetermined location where we'll look through your clothing to see which ones are your favorites and plan the order of your other outfits.  Plan on bringing all of your clothing selections with us so remember to have a big enough bag or a rolling tote to carry your items in.  We'll hop around from spot to spot photographing in various areas close by.  Be prepared to walk a bit.

If you have poses in mind, please bring screen shots of them and we'll make sure to get those into your shoot.  Otherwise I will direct you on how to pose and what to do.  But remember, it's going to be easy and relaxed.  You won't feel stiff and uncomfortable I promise!

Note:  I will bring sheets you can get dressed behind during your clothing changes.  If you prefer to bring your own, feel free.  I want you comfortable the entire time.

Sessions typically take anywhere from 45 mins to an hour and fifteen minutes.
