{the world around me}

Ahhh….finally getting time to make a post.  We’re are still getting settled here in Arizona in our temporary house until our new house is built (hopefully October/November – just before the holidays!).  Boxes surround me still since I’m hesitant to open too much knowing that we’ll just have to pack everything back up and move again.   I think I’ll be wondering where things are for months to come – lol.   This area is beautiful!  So much nature!  Each morning I wake up before the sun comes up and head out on my run/walk (it’s a bit of both since I’m not much of a true runner) and discover new things.  Honestly I never knew the desert had so much wildlife…so far I’ve seen – bunnies, carpenter bees, bumble bees, quail, dove, lizards, coyotes, bobcats, a snake (yes, a snake!), bunnies, woodpeckers, bunnies, grasshoppers (Briella has caught dozens already), and did I mention bunnies?  It’s incredible how much I see each morning.

And since I’ve received many e-mails asking to post images of the desert and the surroundings here – I decided one morning to grab my camera after my run and capture what I see each day.

Also, the Botanical Garden is featuring an amazing display of Chihuly glass.  I had to make that one of the first things on my list to see – I studied Chihuly in college and I’m a big fan of his work.  So below you’ll see some images of his work in the desert.

More to come!  Thanks:)

Near our house is this post…hmmm… ‘decisions’

Hi Ursula – I would recommend the Botanical Gardens just before and after sunset since they light up at night. The only thing is – you have to make reservations and see if there is an opening (I had to make mine 4 days in advance since they were booked – but it’s worth a try). I’m still discovering fun stuff around here – there’s so much!! Have fun and take pictures :)

Hey there! I was so excited to see this blog post as I am in Phoenix now for the weekend (leaving Sunday morning) and I was thinking about going to the botanical gardens. Your pics are awesome! Should this be a definite place to stop tomorrow? We have no plans and want to do the best stuff here. Today we are going to old Scottsdale to shop and have a sprinkles cupcake while our husbands are working. I am staying near the airport. any advice? Thanks!

So glad that you like these!! I honestly was hesitant to move to the desert since I love lots of trees and green lush landscapes. But I’m finding the desert to be a peaceful, beautiful place. I’m glad I’m here now but I do miss things about living in the South.
Thanks for your comments!

Beautiful. inspiring.

I went to phoenix last month to spend some time with my family and we went to the Chihuly exhibit. It is quite a marvel. Thank you for posting these! I’ve had my images downloaded, but just haven’t processed them yet. This post is inspiring me to do so!

I’m sorry I missed the memo about you moving to Arizona! How phenomenal! That view out your backdoor is simply gorgeous. My favorite place to be is the desert in Palm Springs, and the way the sun rises on the hills is breathtaking. This completely reminds me of that. How amazing!

LesleyApril 30, 2009 - 4:42 pm

Wow, Arizona is beautiful! Love the post…I want one around my area, but all we have is street signs nothing cute like that.
