Beautiful! it made me cry, that poem could have been written for my mother too.
Very beautiful poem Kara! Hope your mom has a great birthday!
Kara, thank you for the poem. You made me cry!. I have always been grateful to have such a wonderful daughter.
That was beautiful, great poem!
Happy Birthday to your mother!
First off, you are the best! You’re kind words, thoughts and prayers are hard at work and I know they are making a difference. I’m in such awe over the overwhelming support I’ve received – your comments, e-mails, and some wonderful surprise gifts sent to our room have just brought me to tears. You all don’t know how much your friendship and support means to me and my family- thank you sooooooo much!
The doctor’s at Children have come to the following conclusion – her lab results show that she has contracted Shigella (similar to E-Coli – yuck!) coupled with nephritis and HSP (the disease mentioned below). That’s the reasons for her high fevers, added stomach pains, and other not so fun symptoms. Then we got the exciting news that she could leave the hospital after getting a round of antibiotics to start treating the Shigella (her HSP just has to run it’s course – there’s no treatment except for monitoring her kidneys with weekly urine tests and then with monthly tests)!! Brielle is coming back to her little happy-go-lucky self; she’s talkative and giggling, she’s walking well (although she’s wobbly on her legs and has fallen more than once scaring her a bit), and she’s eating & drinking more. I’m so glad to have her out of the hospital (although I’m sooooooo thankful for the wonderful care she received). And I am selfishly so happy to see things outside of little B’s hospital room. We sat outside tonight just soaking up the beautiful sunset here in Arizona, then bathed and now she’s soundly sleeping.
Anyway, sorry for all the details, we are just so happy to be discharged and will be heading home back to South Carolina on Tuesday! It will give Briella time to be up to traveling and if she regresses, we are close to the doctors who treated her.
Thanks again so much you all!!!! You don’t know how much your words, prayers and support have meant to me and my family. I wish I could give back to you – really… it’s meant the world to me. I’ll hopefully be back to posting soon. It kills me not to be posting more, but I will certainly be making up for it when I get back home!
Thank you and XOXO’s to you all.

Kara, so happy to hear B is doing much better! Get some rest! I know Tyler cannot wait for you both to come home!
Yay, so glad to hear little B is getting better. I have been praying for her daily as God lays in on my heart to do so. It is such an overwhelming joy when, after your kids are sick and they start feeling better, they start getting their spunk back. I so LOVE seeing them return to their normal self. You can take for granted their funky little attitudes until they are sick and then you miss their craziness. So happy to hear Brielle is getting giggly again!
Thanks for the nice compliments. You don’t know how much that means to me to have a pro like you compliment an amature like me. It brought a huge smile to my face. Can’t wait to brag to hubs about it. LOL
Keep on keeping on, you’re a huge inspiration to all!
I had know idea glad to see you guys home.
So glad your little lady is on the mend. Still praying for you and your family. Miss your beautiful pictures but I know that you will be posting when she’s better and it’s so worth the wait.
XOXO
Kris
Kara, I’m so happy to hear that Brielle is on the mend!! What a a scary thing to go through for you all! Good luck and we’ll keep the thoughts and prayers coming!!
Life has a way of changing things up on you….I’m not home and won’t be home for several days unfortunately. Briella has been pretty sick most of our trip and it got really bad the morning we were supposed to leave (she lost a lot of blood) and not to be gross but the morning we were supposed to leave she woke up with her diaper completely full of blood. We took her to the ER and Jeff and Tyler traveled back to South Carolina. She also has developed 50+ bright red lesions all over her body, her joints are swollen, and her gums, lips and mouth have been bleeding and she hasn’t been able to walk (I think her joints just hurt too bad). They have diagnosed her with a disease called HSP ( Henoch-Schönlein Purpura). Kinda rare so I’m so glad that we’re being treated at the Children’s Hospital in Phoenix where they have specialized care. Seeing my little girl in this much discomfort is heart-breaking but I know that she will get over this rough time and that she’s in good, caring hands. Anyway, we’ve been in the hospital for 3 days and it sounds like we won’t be going to South Carolina till after the weekend. I just wanted to keep you all posted since I mentioned posting pictures and session sneak peeks soon. Thanks to those of you who have sent me e-mails and left sweet comments on my blog after hearing she was sick
You’re thoughts and prayers are appreciated.
I’ll post more updates as soon as I can.

Kara, my thoughts are with you. I know how hard it is for a mom (and dad too) to see her child hurt and not be able to fix her pain. I pray that little Briella will be healed. I know you were at the right place for something like that to happen so she can received the best care possible. Keep us updated when you can. I know Briella will pull through this, especially with so much good thoughts and prayers coming her way. Hang in there girls.
So sorry to hear. I found your blog on Beyond and wanted to let you know that she is in my thoughts and prayers. God Bless.

Kara,

I work at WaMu in Capital Markets, here in Florence. Someone had told me a while back that ‘Jeffs wife’ was a photographer and gave me your website. I was amazed when I saw your work! I would love to see about scheduling a session for my 4yr old sometime, possible a family session too. I was shocked to read about what happened with your little girl! I can only imagine how scared you all were! ‘Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding.’ Proverbs 3:5

On a lighter note, I was looking at your work and it is AMAZING. I love your style! Then I realized why. You’re a Seattlite! I was born and raised on the East Side (Bellevue/Redmond). Us Northwesterners have to stick together!
great to hear that she is doing better…. so scary when kids get so sick. Hope she gets better really fast. Laurie
Hugs & prayers you way! So sorry to hear the news of briella. But I’m so glad to hear that she’s starting to act more like the little girl she was before she got sick. Take care of yourself and know that I’m praying for you and your family.
gosh – I’m so sorry Kara, what a scary time for you all. So glad she’s starting to seem more like herself – sure hope she’s on the mend and back to normal soon…take care,
laureen
Well, I’m starting to see a twinkle of my little b coming back. She actually ate a bit o dinner tonight – I was thrilled. She also wanted to ‘cheers’ me before taking a sip of her water (her little routine)and she’s getting a little sassy. All signs that she’s on the upswing. This disease just runs it’s course so she doesn’t need any meds except for pain medications and meds for other aspects brought on by the illness like bladder infection meds, etc. Such a strange disease… a lot of the med students here have been coming into our room (since this is ‘teaching’ hospital) in groups of 4 to 8 to look at her, exam her and ask questions. I figure the more they learn about it and the more care she gets, the better. Anyway, thank you all again soooooo much for your support, thougts and prayers. You don’t know how much it means to me. I’m so lucky to have such caring blog friends. I’ll keep you posted. Thanks again you all!
Oh Kara, you and your family are in my thougths and prayers. Wishing Briella a very quick recovery.
OMG Kara, I wish I could give you both big hugs right now. Hang in there and know that you have a lot of people praying for Brielle. Try to get some rest and keep us all posted when you get the time.
Take care, Kris
I just searched to find out more about what your daughter is going through! It must be so scary to watch your little one in pain. From what I read it is something that just has to go away on it’s own. Please know I am thinking of you and your family. My prayers are with you all. God Bless. Jenny
I will keep her in my prayers. I’m so sorry to hear that. I hope she gets better soon.
Oh my! That does sound heart breaking–poor little thing! You are in our prayers as well!
Oh wow, I’m keeping you in my thoughts….hopefully she feels better quickly!

Oh Kara my heart is breaking for little Briella and for your entire family. I’ve never heard of that disease before. Please know that I am crying out to God on Briella’s behalf. I pray He give you all the comfort that only He can give and that the doctors do whatever it takes to speed her recovery. Praying for you all here in Michigan!
